Envelope Types

Bills Bills are for when you have a specific date to spend an amount, such as a monthly phone bill or quarterly electricity bill. SkyBudget will fill these envelopes throughout the budget period, so the required amount is ready when you need it. SkyBudget will alert you when:

  • The envelope balance is not on track to cover the bill when needed

  • You have spent more than you have budgeted

Expenses These envelopes are for when you have an approximate budget you are aiming to stick to, such as a groceries and fuel. If you're unsure of your budget for something, over-estimate initially to make sure money is set aside. As time progresses, you'll be able to adjust your budget accordingly. SkyBudget will alert you when:

  • You have reached 80% of your budget for the period

  • You have overspent for the period

  • You have a negative envelope balance

General

These envelopes are used as a bucket of money that is for transactions where your spending will be dictated by how much money you have. This would usually be for spending on items like hobbies where your spend is less predictable than Expenses but is not tied to a set time like a Goal.

The only alert you'll receive for General envelopes will be when your balance is negative.
